A hub of Italian design history, present and future established in 1923, Triennale Milano is based in the 1930s Palazzo dell’Arte; home to an archive of 1,600 objects and the triennial exhibition of international design after which it is named.
This year sees ‘Forme mobili’ which explores movement as design, showcasing body-silhouette and gesture-structure relationships through Triennale collections. It features new areas: fashion, boating, and illustration. The journey ends at the Design Platform, highlighting contemporary designer exhibitions. There’s also ‘Unstable Thoughts’ which showcases Franco Raggi, an Italian architect and designer known for his work with Radical design groups and Studio Alchimia. The exhibition explores key stages of his career, from product and exhibition design to interiors, drawing, publishing, and architecture’s societal role. It highlights his ability to innovate and reflect on the spirit of the times. Part of the Design Platform’s program at the Museo del Design Italiano. Furthermore, the new exhibition on Ettore Sottsass explores architecture through his drawings, focusing on themes of architecture, landscape, and ruins. It highlights sketches from his post-Memphis period and his 1992 text Ruins, offering insights into his design philosophy. The exhibition is in Sala Sottsass, home to the permanent Casa Lana installation, a faithful reconstruction of a Milan residence designed by Sottsass in the 1960s.
