The striking 1930s of Italian architect Piero Portaluppi’s masterpiece Casa Corbellini-Wassermann

Words by Harriet Thorpe

Enjoy the colourful abstract paintings and quirky conceptual installations of Swiss artist John M Armleder amidst the striking 1930s marble interiors of Italian architect Piero Portaluppi’s domestic masterpiece Casa Corbellini-Wassermann. There is striped green, terracotta, grey and pink marble flooring and fireplaces, blue mosaics and an artful spiral staircase with gridded metal handrail. Originally designed as apartments, in 2022, the building underwent a refined restoration and renovation by Studio Binocle and designer Antonio Citterio for international contemporary art gallery Massimo di Carlo, opening up its doors to the public for the first time.
